I do not understand any “miss” contest, but at least many of them in the States try to keep it somewhat clean. However, I think Miss Universe Japan is totally sexist and targeted toward men. I mean, this cell block tango part is so like some stripper shows. What happened to the inner beauty? They are so not 33!
Google phone is finally going to be released in Japan this summer from DoCoMo. Cellphones in Japan are much more advanced and there are so many options. There are so many cell phone accessories available and it’s really fun to look around at electronic store. I actually feel like I am visiting future because cellphones in Japan are so much different.
This Google phone is definitely going to be popular just because it is Google, but many mobile carriers are also releasing solar panel phones that are environmentally friendly. Softbank is also releasing expensive “Emporio Armani” phone this summer.
But, I think this Google phone is really ugly. What do you think?
Triumph is one of the popular bra makers in Japan and they release unique original bra every year. So, what is this year’s unique bra? That is “Husband hunting bra”!!
Just like here in the States, people in Japan are getting married later age after they have jobs, savings and education. But, those people still want to get married and start a family. This husband hunting bra actually reflects the trend.
So why this bra is called Husband Hunting Bra?
This bra has A countdown clock attached beneath the bra cups that stops when an engagement ring is inserted. The person who wears this can set their targeted goal and do their own count down. So what happens if you don’t get to insert the engagement ring after you run out of time? This bra is going to explode….. no nothing happens, but it makes you feel like you are a left over. .. This is totally weird, but for the unique and meaningless usage of technology, Husband Hunting Bra is 33!
Oh if you think this is weird, for those people who like “green” product, they also sell bra that turns into grocery bag.
I go to Kagoshima, Japan every summer to visit my family. When I visit, one of the must eat local food is Jambo Mochi.
Jambo Mochi is local sweets and the main ingredient is glutinous rice.
Kagoshima Prefecture’s website describes Jumbo mochi as:
Freshly pounded glutinous rice in small balls about the size of ancient Japanese gold coins are skewered on two bamboo sticks, roasted, and basted with a warm, sweet sauce made from miso, black sugar and thickened with starch. The tradition of always using two sticks has been said to be in imitation of the long sword and the short sword carried by samurai warriors, and also gives them the name “jambo”, meaning “both sticks”.
There are several Jambo mochi places at Iso Kaigan right on the beach. It is great to eat Jambo mochi and drink some hot green tea while looking at the Sakurajima Volcano.

Kanamara Matsuri (Kanamara Festival) is an annual Shinto fertility festival held in Kawasaki, Japan in April.
The Kanamara festival’s main theme is penis. The penis statue used to be popular among sex workers who wished to protect themselves against STDs. This shrine is also a popular place to visit to wish for prosperity, easy delivery, and happy marriage.
If you attend this festival, you will see locals carving penises out of daikon (radish), children and young women sitting astride penis-shaped seesaws for good luck and fertility blessings.
This festival attracts many tourist, but it is taken very seriously by people who are having difficulties getting pregnant. It is a very spiritual event and it has lots of deep spiritual meanings. There are a few other similar fertility festivals that have been going on for over 1000 years in Japan.

When my niece asked me if I knew “Billy-san”, I had no clue who she was talking about. I was thinking in my head if she was talking about Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Joel or some other Billy I can’t think of. Then, she told me that this “Billy-san” does exercise video. I still did not get it, so she went to get the video she reserved and bought and it was the Tae bo video!
I’d love to share some videos to you, but Japan has really strict copyright on broadcasting material. That is why they don’t have cool services like Hulu and you can’t watch TV shows online yet. That is so not 33, but Billy Blanks is still 33 in Japan!
Here in the States, people love to go out and get some sun. In Japan, that is completely opposite. Sun does damage and age your skin. Japanese ladies avoid sun as much as possible by wearing long gloves, hats and by using sun umbrella.
There are so many different kind of long gloves and women can make their own fashion statement. To me, they kind of looks weird, especially when it is really hot. For example, my sister wears t-shirt, jeans and long white thin gloves when it is so hot outside. I always make fun of her because it is kind of like Michael Jackson. Do you think these long gloves are 33? Hmmm, not so much.
Jackie Chan is one of the super star in the world. He is an actor, director and also a singer! He has broken every single bone and still going strong. He looks great even though he is currently 55 years old.
WeirdAsiaNews recently reported that Jackie tried to tackle the world’s biggest sushi. That was displayed at G.Sushi owned by Jackie himself. From the picture, it looks like this sushi has some eggs, imitation crabs and seaweed on it. Not sure if they cut this up and ate it or letting this rot. Either or, this biggest sushi is totally 33!
I am a dog person, but I just saw these cute cat collars on Rakuten shopping site in Japan. They are about $10 -15 U.S. and I know that these are something I can buy for my friends who are cat lovers. Not only they are cute, but also they are comfy because they are all handmade in Japan and they use cloth material. These are totally 33!
It’s been kind of cold even though it’s supposed to be SPRING! Sakura cha is what I crave for during this kind of weather.
“Sakura” means cherry blossom and “cha” means tea. When I had this served before, I received a tea cup with pickled version of sakura (the flower) inside. Then, the server poured hot water in the tea cup and the pickled sakura magically bloomed beautifully in my tea cup. The tea was a little salty, but it had a very flowery flegrance of Sakura and I enjoyed the taste as well as presentation. Sakura cha is totally33!
